Hi!

I am trying to do a LCA which contains a thermoplastic called SEBS (styrene ethene butene Styrene).

It is more and more common as a replacement for PVC in the medical branch. Not much data is available about envirronment or health effect are available.

The best proxy i find in Ecoinvent i ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene).

Is it possible to include it in ecoinvent by some mean?

Is SEBS on your roadmap?

Do you have comparaison available with ABS?

Thank you for your question. I agree, that acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene-copolymer is the closest proxy in our database. The ecoinvent database is a background database, so the aim is to provide average data for relevant combinations of product, technologies and geographies. From the GaBi dataset and general information on the production process of SEBS, I noticed that all raw materials are present in ecoinvent. So if you have a solid knowledge of how the product is being produced and the energy required, I am almost certain that you will be able to build it using our database.

There are currently no plans to add SEBS to the database.
