Dear all,

I am here to seek clarifications for transport modeling in SimaPro. I am investigating the transport of a beverage, which can be transported in a) light packaging, b) heavier packaging, and c) in bulk in a tank for liquids.

The information I have got available to model tkm transport is as follows:

- number of beverage packages per pallet

- number of pallets in a truck, which gives me the total L of beverage transported

- total amount of L of the beverage when transported in bulk

- distance traveled

When calculating the weight, I use the number of beverage packages per pallet and then the weight of both the packaging and the beverage. Then i 'isolate' by a FU. And then i multiple the weight by distance. However, i am not using total L for the packaging systems and only use the total L for the bulk system to 'isolate' the FU.  However, I am running into a few challenges, because the results show that my bulk system is 'only' 12% better in CO2e indicator than the light system and only 2 times 'better' than the heavy system. This confuses me as I clearly see that the bulk system transports 3 times more beverage than the heavy packaging system, so I would expect the impact to be at least 3 times higher (provided the same distance and same mode of transport).

Anyone can help enlighten me, please, what i could be doing wrong. I am sensing the challenge might be in not using the total L, however, i am not sure how.

Thank you in advance

Best, Maria
