Carl Vadenbo

As Project Manager, Carl oversees and leads projects and outreach activities of the ecoinvent Association, aimed at promoting life cycle thinking and the use of LCA worldwide, with a focus on the Global South.
Most recently, this has included the overall coordination of the Development of National LCA Database Roadmaps project.
As an extension of that project, Carl co-authored a report for UNEP and the Life Cycle Initiative with guidance and recommendations for national LCA databases. In addition, Carl represents the ecoinvent Association on the Technical Working Group on metadata descriptors in the Global LCA Data Access (GLAD) network. To a lesser extent, he also supports data entry projects and the continuous development of the ecoinvent database.

Carl Vadenbo attained a PhD in 2013 from ETH in Zürich, Switzerland, on the topic of life cycle-based optimization of physical exchanges in industrial networks. During his PhD project, Carl served as the representative of ETH on ecoinvent’s Group of LCI Experts and later as a reviewer for the database. Remaining at ETH and the Chair of Ecological Systems Design until 2017, first as a post-doctoral fellow and subsequently as a research associate, he worked in several project related to waste and secondary resource management.
