Reason for the price increase
Three years since the release of ecoinvent 3.0 the database has grown considerably to over 12,800 datasets. The three releases (ecoinvent 3.1, ecoinvent 3.2 and ecoinvent 3.3) have brought more data (for instance the first part of the WLFDB) and updated data (most notably a compete update of the electricity sector), an additional system model and new features (such as the pdf documentation).
New Price
We have decided to increase the maintenance price at level which we hope is both acceptable for the users whilst also reflecting the increase in the price of full licences.
The yearly maintenance end user price will increase from EUR 500 to EUR 650 per year for commercial single-user and educational multi-user and from EUR 250 to EUR 325 for commercial multi-user and educational single-user licences. Prices for new licences and upgrades to version 3 will remain unchanged.
* Please read the examples below carefully. In your case the price may be lower when you extend your maintenance before 1st December 2016.
We want to increase the price in a way that is predictable to users while not forcing large pre-buys on them. Maintenance is generally bought short notice.
Users that extend their maintenance before the 1st December 2016 and the current maintenance end date is before the 1st December 2016 will be priced at the old price of EUR 500 / EUR 250. Other maintenance extensions will be charged at the new price from now on.
Examples
A user's maintenance expires on 1st November 2016. He would like to extend his maintenance by 2 years (to the 1st November 2018) to gain access to new releases for the next year. If he renews his maintenance before the 1st December 2016, he can extend the first year for EUR 500 and the second year (1st November 2017 to 1st November 2018) for EUR 650. So the total price for the two year maintenance extension would be EUR 1,150.
A user's maintenance expires on 1st January 2017. He would like to extend his maintenance by 1 year (to the 1st January 2018). No matter when this user orders from now on, the price will be the new price.
A user's maintenance expired on 1st December 2015. He would like to extend his maintenance by 1 year (to the 1st December 2016) to gain access to ecoinvent 3.3. If he renews his maintenance before the 1st December 2016, he can extend his maintenance for EUR 500.
A user's maintenance expired on 1st July 2014. He would like to extend his maintenance by 3 years (to the 1st July 2017) to gain access to ecoinvent 3.3 and future updates. If he renews his maintenance before the 1st December 2016, he can extend all three years at the old rate of EUR 500.
