Older Versions of the Database

The first version of the ecoinvent database was released in 2003. The current version builds on all previous versions of the database. These can be found here.

Version 3.6

Version 3.6 was released in 2019. It featured more than 2,200 new and 2,500 updated datasets related to agriculture, building and construction materials, chemicals, electricity, fishing, metals, refineries, textiles, tourism, transport, waste treatment and recycling, and water supply. As a result, the ecoinvent data landscape now includes 247 more products, new tools for agriculture and waste treatment sectors, and greatly expands its geographical coverage on numerous countries and regions not covered before, such as Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, India, Peru and South Africa. Version 3.5

Version 3.5 was released in 2018. It featured updates in waste treatment, hard coal and aluminium supply, pulp and containerboard production and introduced data on aquaculture and fish capture for the first time. Further, the representation of supply chains was revised. Over thousand links between demanding and supplying activities were updated and hundreds of new, regional market datasets for various products were introduced. Find out more here.

Version 3.4

Version 3.4 was released in 2017. It updated the electricity markets for both attributional and consequential system models, partitioning the Indian electricity sector by states and grids. Further, data for the European natural gas supply, for chemical products, and for the recycling of PE and PET were added and updated. Find out more here.

Version 3.3

Version 3.3 was released in 2016, and expanded the coverage of the database with several hundreds of new agricultural datasets from the WFLDB. Moreover, it included important overall improvements to the database, including the addition of prices for all products, pdf documentations per dataset, the ILCD method, the CPC classification among other. Version 3.2

Version 3.2 was released on the 30th November 2015. This release provided a further update of the electricity sector, data on refrigerated transport and new international data for several sectors. It also introduced market groups for regions, countries and products. Find out more here.

Version 3.1

ecoinvent version 3.1 is the first enhanced iteration of the ecoinvent database after its major overhaul with version 3 in 2013. Version 3.1 brought many improvements and additions to the database. Find out more here.

Version 3

The ecoinvent association released version 3.0 in May 2013. This was the third major release in the association's long history. Find out more about the first release of ecoinvent version 3 here.

Version 2

The first iteration of ecoinvent version 2 was released in 2007. Already at that time the ecoinvent database was one of the most recognised LCI databases worldwide. Find out more about version 2 of the database here.
